WES CRAVEN`S NEW NIGHTMARE (1994 U.S.) D/W: WES CRAVEN P: MARIANNE MADDALENA
This interesting seventh NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movie is much better than all the other sequels which it pokes fun at. Hather Langenkamp is Heather Langenkamp and other cast members (including Craven) play themselves also. Turns out that Freddy is actually real, and the movies are some kind of gate for him to enter the real world. Craven shows how great a horror director he can be in some fantastic scenes, but this "real-life fantasy" is overlong and culminates in a disappointing FX-filled climax. Definitely worth seeing though. Langenkamp`s son in danger is the focus of most of the scare scenes. With John Saxon, Robert Shaye, Bodhi Elfman, Sam Rubin, W. Earl Brown, Lin Shaye and Robert Englund as Freddy and himself. Craven continued the self-referential theme with the hit SCREAM. FREDDY VS. JASON followed.
