WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN (2010 UK US) D/W: LYNNE RAMSAY W: RORY STEWART KINNEAR P: JENNIFER FOX/LUC ROEG/ROBERT SALERNO
From the moment he is born, Tilda Swinton can't seem to love her son Kevin, who from childhood doesn't mask his contempt for, and sneering intellect from her. John C. Reilly is the oblivious father. Told in fragments, leading to a shocking conclusion that I won't reveal here. It's such a great film that actually knowing in advance doesn't matter, but if you can avoid spoilers prior to viewing, so much the better. A modern classic (based on Lionel Shriver's controversial novel), that's all you need to know. The cast is brilliant, including both Jasper Newell and Ezra Miller as the boy and teen Kevin. With Siobhan Fallon. The original score is from Jonny Greenwood, with a great oldies selection (plenty of Lonnie Donegan). Seamus McGarvey was the Cinematographer. It was mostly shot in Connecticut. Swinton, Ramsey and Steven Soderbergh were Executive Producers.
