THE VIRAL FACTOR (blood weapon; jik zin; ni zhan) (2011 HONG KONG CHINA) D/W: DANTE LAM W: JACK NG W/P: CANDY LEUNG P: ALBERT LEE/SOLON SO/WANG ZHONGLEI
Bad guys create a new strain of smallpox, so they can blackmail the world for the vaccine. Jay Chou is an armed forces hero with a bullet in his head, who teams up with his long-lost brother, a thief-come-good (Nicholas Tse) in Kuala Lumpar. Tse's little girl is in danger, and female doctor Lin Peng is forced to work on the virus. Some impressive action and stuntwork (Chin Ka-Lok was involved) is completely wasted in this dull, overlong bore, seriously bogged down with melodrama. Despite the Malaysian setting, and an extended opening firefight in Jordan, it was shot in the PRC, Singapore and Thailand. Andy On, Patrick Keung and some white guy are villains. With Carl (son of Richard) Ng, Liu Kai-Chi and Elaine Kam.
