VIOLATED PARADISE (scintillating sin) (1963 ITALY JAPAN) D/P: MARION JERING
A Japanese woman supposedly narrates (in English) her story in this light mondo-like travelogue of then-"exotic" Japan. She goes from her village in Hokkaido (where the locals are "like the Sioux Indians") down-river by boat (!) to Tokyo (the pure fabrication of these scenes with locals behaving like pre-20th Century non-sophisticates had me shaking my head so much that i forgot to note that she never seems to cross a sea to the Honshu mainland!). En route she stops at a fishing village so we can see topless female divers (the main selling point in those days i guess, there were similar scenes in REVENGE OF DR. X too), and she falls for a "man god". She informs us that the local children don`t learn to read and write! But it`s on to Tokyo where she joins a geisha house, refuses to put out for a regular customer and is fired, gets a job in the resort town of Atami, visits the Temple Of The 47 Ronin, and then returns to the fishing village to get married (and topless. She becomes a diver). Spliced in with this is footage of Tokyo nightclubs and strip joints while a dynamic American man narrates more uneducated shit about the red light districts etc. You won`t learn much, but i guess viwers at the time didn`t mind about that. Awfully tames now though, a curious little footnote for exploitation historians only. It seems to be the final credit for the Russian-born Director of DEVIL AND THE DEEP SEA and LADIES OF THE BIG HOUSE, among others.
