TROLL (1985 U.S.) D/W: JOHN CARL BUECHLER W: ED NAHA P: ALBERT BAND
Michael Moriarty (as a character called Harry Potter, a record collector) moves his family into a new apartment, unaware that it`s a gateway to a fairy tale-like fantasy world. Tokor the troll (Phil Fondacaro in a monster suit) possesses his little girl, and has a magic ring that can turn people into vegetation. Shelley Hack is the wife, and guest stars include Sonny Bono, June and Anne Lockhart and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. This comedic fantasy has some of the right ingredients, but is quite poor. You know you`re in trouble when the most memorable scene is Moriarty lip-synching and dancing about to Blue Cheer`s Summertime Blues cover. Shot in Italy for Empire (Charles Band was Executive Producer, Richard Band did the music). Albert and son Richard Band, and Buechler have bit parts. It was FX maestro Buechler`s directorial debut proper (after directing a segment of THE DUNGEONMASTER). He made CELLAR DWELLER next.
