THE THING (FROM ANOTHER WORLD!) (1951 U.S.) D: CHRISTIAN NYBY D/W/P: HOWARD HAWKS (uncredited) W: CHARLES LEDERER/BEN HECHT
A flying saucer is discovered under the ice in the Arctic, so a research lab team who discover it take the frozen alien specimen (James Arness) indoors where it thaws, escapes and picks off the scientists one-by-one for blood nourishment. Kenneth Tobey is the hero in this superior sci-fi horror, one of the best b/w suspensers of it`s era, it requires some concession to time-passed for a modern audience, but remains a great piece of entertainment. Based on John W. Campbell`s story Who Goes There?. With Margaret Sheridan, Douglas Sperncer, Eduard Franz, Robert Bray, Edmund Breon, John Dierkes, Lee Tung Foo, Paul Frees, Everett Glass, Milton Kibbee and David McMahon. John Carpenter remade it (in a very different way) thirty years later. They would make a great contrasting double-bill.
