THE SHOOTING (1965 U.S.) D/P: MONTE HELLMAN W: "ADRIEN JOYCE" (CAROL EASTMAN) P: JACK NICHOLSON
This one was shot back-to-back with RIDE IN THE WHIRLWIND. Both are unusual westerns that come highly recommended. Warren Oates and a young, naive Will Hutchins are hired by nameless Millie Perkins to help her track someone for unknown reasons through the desert. Jack Nicholson ("i`m gonna blow your face off") has one of his best earlier roles as a hired killer who joins them. Roger Corman backed both features without credit, kinda like an Executive Producer. Screenwriter Eastman also wrote FIVE EASY PIECES. The criminally underrated Hellman didn`t get to direct again until the classic TWO LANE BLACKTOP.
