THE SHINING (1997 U.S.) D: MICK GARRIS W: STEPHEN KING P: MARK CARLINER
Recovering alcaholic and struggling playwrite Steve Webber, his wife Rebecca De Mornay and their psychic little boy (Courtland Mead) stay at the big haunted hotel about to be snowed-in in this four-and-a-half hour (!) long mini-series. Because King wrote it it's closer to the original novel than Kubrick's version, but is very, very tedious, not scary and full of typical tv overstatements. Steve Johnson's make-up is ok, but CGI hedge animals come to life are not. With Melvin Van Peebles, Elliott Gould, Pat Hingle, Stanley Anderson, Shawnee Smith as a waitress, Sam Raimi, Frank Darabont, David J. Schow, Preston Sturges Jr., and King and Garris.
