THE LOST WORLD (1925 U.S.) D: HARRY O. HOYT W: MARION FAIRFAZ P: EARL HUDSON/WATTERSON R. ROCKAKER
Wallace Beery is the fiery Professor Challenger who leads an expedition to the prehistoric jungle plateaux in this influential early silent b/w version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle`s "stupendous tale of adventure and romance". As well as the excellent animated dinosaurs (including a Brontasaurus that`s captured and taken to London) there`s a mischevious ape man (pro-wrestler Bull Montana). With Bessie Love, Lewis Stone, Arthur Hoyt, Lloyd Hughes, Alma Bennett, Margaret McWade, Jules Cowles, Charles Wellesley, Jocko the monkey, Virginia Brown Faire, Nelson McDowell, Gilbert Roland, Leo White and Doyle himself. Willis O`Brien (a name all FX fanatics should know) created the stop-motion monsters. Modern viewers may be surprised by the ahead of their time Bronto-stomps-London scenes. Runnning times range from 50 to 90 odd mins. It was originaly 106. The next version wasn`t until 1960.
