THE BOOGEYMAN (the bogey man) (1980 U.S.) D/W/P: ULLI LOMELL W: SUZANNA LOVE/DAVID HERSCHEL
In a flashback we see how a little boy killed his mother`s abusive boyfriend with the help of his sister. Twenty years later the grown up brother (now mute) and sister (Love, the director`s wife) work on a tobacco farm and are still haunted by the events. Psychiatrist John Carradine persuades her to return to the house where it took place. A mirror is smashed there, and the evil shards possess people to kill. This odd horror movie seems half-baked and highly derivative (EXORCIST, CARRIE, HALLOWEEN etc.) and some scenes are ridicilous and laughable. But it`s also inventive in unusual ways, and a watchable curiosity item if nothing else from the German Fassbinder protege Lommel. Jerry Gross released it. There was a sequel.
