STRAY CAT ROCK 2: WILD JUMBO (alleycat rock 2; nora nekko rock: wild jumbo) (1970 JAPAN) D/W: TOSHIYA FUJITA W: SHUICHI NAGAHARA P: HIDEO SASAI/ MICHIO IWASAWA
In this immediate sequel to a surprise hit, a gang called The Pelican Club (led by Takeo Chii and including series regulars Meiko Kaji and Tatsuya Fuji, plus Yuusuke Natsu) roll around the city aimlessly in an army jeep, getting up to episodic hijinks. When the plot finally kicks in (i was starting to get suspicious as to why a Satoshi Funachi book was credited as the source material), a girl stalking Takeo on a hite horse (Bunjaku Han) convinces him and the gang to travel to a seaside town and rob a truck carrying the substantial proceeds from a religious group`s collection fund. The ending is downbeat and totally at odds with the meandering first half. It`s not really a good film, but oddly enough i enjoyed it. Kaji (who you get to see in a white bikini) sings a song, as does the previous entry`s star, blues singer Akiko Wada (now an omnipresent tv variety show staple). With Akira Nishikao, and Charles Bronson on a poster for aftershave. It was shot simultaneously with STRAY CAT ROCK 3, on different locations.
