SNUFF (american cannibal; slaughter; el angel de la muerte) (1976 ARGENTINA U.S.) D/W: MICHAEL and ROBERTA FINDLAY D: HORACIO FREDRIKSSON/SIMON NUCHTERN/CARTER STEVENS W: A. BOCHIN P: JACK BRAVMAN/ALLAN SHACKLETON
This infamous, controversial phenomenon is an important lesson in exploitation advertising. The Findlay's filmed a Manson-inspired religious cult horror movie in Argentina and couldn't sell it when they got back to the States. Years later, head of Monarch releasing company Shackleton hit on the brilliant idea of tagging on a new behind-the-scenes ending that puported to be the actual on-screen killing of one of the actresses involved (her hand is sawed off and her entrails are ripped out). This unconvincing new footage was filmed by porno director Stevens (i don't know what Fredriksson and Nuchtern did, but they're credited on the IMDB). All credits were removed and the advertising slogan became "Filmed in South America...where life is cheap!". Despite playing in theatres all over the U.S., many believed it to be a genuine snuff movie sneaked into the country! It was a hit! The F.B.I. had to investigate it! Michael and Roberta Findlay appear in the cast, and why is the police desk in the middle of the street?
