SKINWALKERS (skinwalkers: eclipse) (2006 CANADA U.S. GERMANY) D: JIM ISAAC W: JAMES DeMONACO/TODD HARTHAN/JAMES RODAY P: DENNIS BERARDI/DON CARMODY
The opening blurb of this release from Stan Winston Productions talks about Yee Nadlooshi, supernatural beings of Navajo descent, but this is basically a werewolf movie, and a lousy one at that. A gang of biker werewolves (led by Jason Behr, and including Kim Coates and Natassia Malthe from BLOODRAYNE sequels) want to get their hands on a half-breed kid (Matthew Knight from THE GRUDGE sequels) as he turns 13, as he has the power to destroy them (or something). His mom (Rhona Mitra from DOOMSDAY) has to protect him, with the help of family (Elias Koteas, Sarah Carter, Shawn Roberts) who are secretly werewolves too (they have to be chained-up during the full moon). It`s difficult to tell who this was aimed at, it has a young teen protaganist (fair enough), but what`s with the gore, shootouts and werewolf sex scenes (not quite HOLWING II, but still)? In the end it pleases no-one. With Roman Podhora, Julian Richings and dull wolf vs. wolf punch-ups. From the director of JASON X, who upped his game with the surprisingly good PIG HUNT next. Watch WEREWOLVES ON WHEELS instead.
