SHAFT IN AFRICA (1973 U.S.) D: JOHN GULLERMIN W: STIRLING SILLIPHANT P: ROGER LEWIS
Richard Roundtree returns as the black private dick who satisfies all the chicks in this third, much more serious entry. He travels to Paris (actually Spain) and then Africa to overthrow a secret slave trade masterminded by Frank Finlay. Whereas it could have been a superior exploitation movie with something to say (like maybe a Paul Verhoeven movie), this never quite goes full throttle enough to fully satisfy. But it's still a better film than the overrated original. With Neda Arneric, Jacques Herlin, Marne Maitland, Jacques Marin and Aldo Sambrell. There was also a short-lived SHAFT tv series.
