SCOOBY-DOO (2002 U.S.) D: RAJA GOSNELL W: JAMES GUNN/CRAIG TITLEY P: RICHARD SUCKLE/CHARLES ROVEN
The screenwriter of TROMEO AND JULIET updated the Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters for a post-modern audience in this big-budget live-action summer FX movie. Freddie Prinze Jr is Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar is Daphne, Matthew Lillard is well cast as Shaggy, Linda Cardellini is Velma and Scooby is a cute computer animated creation. They investigate Rowan Atkinson's Spooky Island Amusement Park (sets built in Australia) and there's enough monsters, comedy, loud music and flatulence to keep it's intended audience happy. Nothing great, but a little better than you might expect. And it's nice to see that everyone hates Scrappy-Doo. With Isla Fisher, Miguel A. Nunez Jr., Pamela Anderson and Mark McGrath. There was a sequel.
