ROGER CORMAN: HOLLYWOOD`S WILD ANGEL (1978 U.S.) D/P: CHRISTIAN BLACKWOOD
Narrated 57 min. doc about Roger Corman (lots of interesting interview footage with him), at the time going strong with New World Pictures, so there`s clips and/or trailers for HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD, GRAND THEFT AUTO, CAGED HEAT, NIGHT CALL NURSES, DEATH RACE 2000, BOXCAR BERTHA. Then it backtracks to A.I.P. and the drive-ins, so there`s footage and anecdotes from A BUCKET OF BLOOD, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, DEMENTIA 13, The Poe Cycle, THE TERROR, THE WILD ANGELS, THE TRIP (and others). Interviewees indebted to Corman include Ron Howard, David Carradine, Allan Arkush, Paul Bartel, Joe Dante, Jonathan Demme, Peter Fonda, Jonathan Kaplan and Martin Scorsese. Corman also talks about distributing Bergman, Fellini and Truffaut for the love of it! A fun watch for those inclined, but the jarring (in retrospect) ending has the trailer for the forgotten, out-of-place I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN supposedly pointing the way for New World as a diverse major studio (Corman sold it 5 years later). German documentarian Blackwood died in 1992.
