ROCK 'N' ROLL NIGHTMARE (the edge of hell) (1987 CANADA) D: JOHN FASANO W/P: JOHN MIKL THOR
Fed up of TRICK OR TREAT or HARD ROCK ZOMBIES? Try this for size. It's the ultimate heavy-metal horror movie. Thor (a one-time Mr. Canada) is the long blonde-haired leader of 80's metal hair band Triton. After a pathetic pre-credit sequence (a plastic skeleton pops out of an oven) we follow their RV driving for a very long time. They eventually arrive at an (apparently) spooky old farmhouse. AMITYVILLE-style "aaahh's" play everytime there's an exterior shot of the house. Despite the warnings of the caretaker, they proceed to record new material in the barn that's been converted into a 24-track studio. As well as the effortlessly charismatic Thor, look out for drummer Stig. He's supposed to be a Cockney (or Australian) and uses the worst accent i've ever heard ("no sweat sweet-knees"). The story drags a little (ok,a lot) as Triton practice their songs (like "We Live For Rock") and have unappealing sex scenes while being picked off one-by-one by some demonic force manifested in the worst special FX. But stick around for the incredible surprise ending. I won't spoil it for you, but suffice to say you'll never forget it and no-one wears metal pants and teased hair like Thor (also in ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE and RECRUITS). See it today. Fasano directed BLACK ROSES and THE JITTERS and worked on scripts for many big-buget Hollywood movies.
