THE REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1958 U.K.) D: TERENCE FISHER W: JIMMY SANGSTER/GEORGE BAXT (uncredited) P: ANTHONY HINDS
This superior sequel to the breakthrough CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN has Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) escaping the guillotine and relocating to a German hospital where he has all the bits and pieces neccesary to continue his research. Much more subtle, creepy and disturbing (if not exactly scary) than it`s predecessor, it shows what a craftsman Fisher could be (combined with the screenplay, the lighting, cinematography, music and set design) and how shocking Hammer was at the time (even cannibalism is hinted at here). A good example of prime Hammer (without much action though). With John Welsh, Lionel Jeffries, Charles Lloyd Pack, John Stuart, George Woodbridge and Michael Ripper. THE EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN followed.
