REPO MAN (1983 U.S.) D/W: ALEX COX P: JONATHAN WACKS/PETER McCARTHY
Cox`s debut feature is a cult classic that more people should discover (and multiple viewings are advised). Emilio Estevez is a rookie car repossession punk kid learning the ropes from experienced Harry Dean Stanton ("a repo man is always intense"). Rival repo firms and goverment agencies are searching for a `64 Chevy Malibu with radioactive dead aliens in the trunk (driven by the fantastically eccentric Fox Harris). The ending is pretty wild, and Tracey Walter has a standout performance as a philosophical junk yard owner. With Sy Richardson, Angelique Pettyjohn, Zander Schloss, Miguel Sandoval, Vonetta McGee, Biff Yeager, Abbe Wool and The Circle Jerks. Cox (who`s not hiding his love of spaghetti westerns and KISS ME DEADLY) can be spotted in a gas station. He also prepared a special tv edit with some additional footage and clever swearing substitutes. Michael Nesmith was the executive producer. Oh, and the soundtrack is great too. See it now you goddamn melonfarmer!. Cox made SID AND NANCY next. Followed years later by REPO CHICK.
