ORCA (1977 U.S.) D: MICHAEL ANDERSON W/P: LUCIANO VINCENZONI W: SERGIO DONATI/ROBERT TOWNE (uncredited)
Hot on the heels of his critically mauled KING KONG, i think critics were a little unfair to this JAWS-inspired tale of a giant killer whale out for revenge against opportunistic fisherman (Richard Harris) that killed it`s mate (and unborn baby whale) from Executive Producer Dino De Laurentiis. It is awfully silly, but easy to watch, and scenes with animatronic whales are seamless, and Malta (!) convincingly doubles for the Arctic Circle. Kids in school always enjoyed talking about the part where Bo Derek`s leg is bitten-off, or the hosing-the-foetus scene after it had been on tv. With Charlotte Rampling, Robert Carradine, Keenan Wynn, Will Sampson, Scott Walker and Don "Red" Barry. Ennio Morricone did the music. I think JAWS 4 copied it. Unfortuntely De Laurentiis never got to make his King Kong Vs. Orca (!) movie.
