OFFSPRING (2008 U.S.) D: ANDREW van den HOUTEN W: JACK KETCHUM P: WILLIAM M. MILLER
The script is a little vague and nondescript (or bewilderingly simple), but basically a small tribe of throwback savages descend on those living in the wilds of Michigan, and eat them. Art Hindle is a retired cop helping to track them down. As i said, the storytelling lacks focus and this is no classic, but it`s proper, full-blooded, serious horror with a nice, nasty edge in keeping with Ketchum`s writing (it`s based on his novel). Parts reminded me of THE HILLS HAVE EYES and DEATH LINE, and one can imagine it tearing up a grindhouse a quarter of a century previous. Both Houten and Ketchum have parts, and there`s an obscure FLAMING STAR (!) reference. Followed by THE WOMAN.
