NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1990 U.S.) D: TOM SAVINI W: GEORGE A. ROMERO P: JOHN A. RUSSO
No-one could be expected to improve upon (or even equal) the influential original, but this remake by Romero`s FX regular is surprisingly good. It`s in colour and less gory, and the heroics are shifted from Ben to Barbara, but it`s more-or-less the same story. Tony Todd is Ben and Tom Towles is a particularly unlikeable dad with sick child. Strangely enough though, Savini did not provide the (very good) zombie make-up, that was left to John Vulich and Everett Burrell. It begins with the line "they`re coming to get you Barbara", and there`s a different ending. With Bill Moseley, Chilly Billy and Chris Gore as a zombie. Mehahem Golan, Romero and Russ Streiner were executive producers. There was another 3D remake years later.
