THE INFORMERS (underworld informers) (1963 UK) D: KEN ANNAKIN W: ALUN FALCONER/PAUL DURST P: WILLIAM MacQUITTY
Detective Inspector Nigel Patrick's superior officer (Harry Andrews) informs him that the force is no longer to use informers (or "snouts") for information anymore, much to his chagrin. Meanwhile a gang (including Roy Kinnear) is robbing banks all over London. This quite nicely done, if badly paced b/w crime movie (based on Douglas Warner's novel Death Of A Snout) has Patrick framed for bribery by criminal mastermind Frank Finlay, the real power-behind-the-("ponce")-throne for Derren Nesbitt (an amusing heel). With Allan Cuthbertson as Smythe, Colin Blakely as the Irish rag-and-bone man searching for the killers of his "snout" brother, and Peter Bowles.
