I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (2010 U.S.) D: STEVEN R. MONROE W: STUART MORSE P: LISA HANSEN/PAUL HERTZBERG
Slick remake of the notorious 1978 original stars Sarah Butler (who`s no Camille Keaton) as a writer staying at a remote cabin who`s humiliated, raped (including sodomy) and left for dead by a bunch of sadistic hicks. It deviates from the original by having the Sheriff (the Welsh Andrew Howard, from the excellent THE DEVIL`S CHAIR) involved, and the atrocities recorded on a video camera. Butler returns (given an almost supernatural air, not present in the original) to wreak gory vengeance. A fairly pointless rehash for any of the following groups: 1) people who (incorrectly) saw the original as feminist empowerment (ha ha!) will certainly see no such subtext here 2) modern exploitation fans won`t find much shocking or grotesque enought to be subversive 3) conisseurs of grimy sleaze will find the modern sheen much less aestheticaly visceral and memorable than the original (which always did for me what the overrated LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT was supposed to). With Jeff Branson and Tracey Walter. Meir Zarchi was an Executive Producer for this CineTel/Anchor Bay release.
