HYPOTHERMIA (ice tremors) (2010 US) D/W: JAMES FELIX McKENNEY P: LARRY FESSENDEN/PETER PHOK/DEREK CURL/BRENT KUNKLE
Michael Rooker, his wife, son and son's girlfriend are trying to enjoy ice-fishing on a frozen lake. A drunken, show-off yahoo and his son are disturbing the tranquility. But that's the least of their worries when it appears that something big that lives in the lake is popping out through holes to feed on them one-by-one. Actually a pretty well-done character-driven piece, that is almost ruined by the appearance of a jarringly cheap-looking gill-man in a modified wetsuit, straight out of a 50s monster movie (doubly peculiar when you consider that the other, sparing gore FX are very well done). Despite this, and a weak ending, a different, enjoyable and oddly memorable outing that doesn't outstay its welcome at only 73 mins. Set in Maine, but shot in Mayfield, NY. McKenney also edited, and Fessenden appears as a fishing show host on tv. McKenney's SATAN HATES YOU was released the same year.
