HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER (1958 U.S.) D: HERBERT L. STROCK W: "KENNETH LANGTRY" (ABEN KANDELL) W/P: HERMAN COHEN
This ahead-of-it`s time b/w oddity from A.I.P. has a make-up artist who`s working on a sequel to the pictures I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF and I WAS A TEENAGE FRANKENSTEIN discovering that his workshop is being closed down as a result of a studio takeover. He drugs the actors in said monster make-up (a novacaine mix), and hypnotises them to think they really are monsters. He orders them to kill his enemies on the American International lot! Of course being a pre-cursor to films like WES CRAVEN`S NEW NIGHTMARE and the SCREAM series doesn`t neccesarily make it a good film, and it`s not (it`s pretty boring) The final reel is in colour, and offers a glimpse at some Paul Blaisdell monster masks. With John Ashley (who sings a song), Robert Shayne, Morris Ankrum, Gary Conway, Paul Brinegar, Walter Reed, Thomas Browne Henry, Cohen and Frank Richards. There was a remake-in-name-only in 2001.
