HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER (2001 U.S.) D/W: GEORGE HUANG P: LOU ARKOFF/STAN WINSTON/COLLEEN CAMP
Here's one of five Creature Features made for HBO that re-used the titles (only) of A.I.P hits of the 50's. Colleen Camp's video game company hires three arrogant weirdo whizkids under the management of Steven Culp to come up with a scary monster for their current release. They use a topless Julie Strain (playing herself) as the model for their heroine and put her in a robotic suit. An artificial intelligence chip results in the computer controlling the suit, which walks around killing off the characters one-by-one (and using the bodies to assemble itself). Clea DuVall is the nice, put-upon intern who has to fight it. Pretty dumb stuff, with unconvincing VR game/reality switches and a cynical "don't be nice" message. With Tyler Mane and Danny Masterson turns up very briefly in a pointless role.
