THE HAUNTED HOUSE (1920 U.S.) D/W: BUSTER KEATON/EDDIE CLINE P: JOSEPH M. SCHENCK
Very funny silent Keaton short (21 b/w mins.) has Buster as a Wall Street bank teller who discovers a hideout used by counterfeiters, loaded with fake ghosts and booby traps to scare the cops away. Nowadays this type of slapstick is an aquired taste, and this is the kind of quick, painless introduction that may get you hooked. Modern viewers are often unprepared for quite how acroabtic and inventive Keaton was.
