GENERATION X (1995 U.S.) D: JACK SHOLDER W: ERIC BLAKENEY P: DAVID ROESSELL
In the future unregistered mutants with special powers are sent to mutant camp as punishment. The Xavier institute (run by Irish Jeremy Ratchford and busty, sexy Finola Hughes in a platinum blonde wig) offers an educational alternative by churning out superheroes. Unsuccesful Fox tv pilot (from New World) is not-bad teen-appeal sci-fi hokum, but already dated when today`s kids are spoilt by the mega-budget X-MEN movies sourced from the same comics masterminded by Executive Producer Stan Lee. Heather McComb is teen heroine Jubilee, and Matt Frewer is exceptionally irritating as the villain who uses a dream machine for psychic advertising, and seems to be re-treading MAX HEADROOM via Jim Carrey as THE MASK. With Fulvio Cecere, fart humour and references to Quentin Tarantino, Freddy Kreuger, Hootie & The Blowfish and Barry White. Shot in Canada.
