THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS OR: PARDON ME, BUT YOUR TEETH ARE IN MY NECK (dance of the vampires) (1967 U.K.) D/W: ROMAN POLANSKI W: GERARD BRACH P: GENE GUTOWSKI
This is my favourite of Polanski`s classics. Jack MacGowran is bumbling Van Helsing-type professor Abronsius, and Polanski is his horny sidekick. They arrive in Transylvania where they stay in an inn terrorised by vampires. So they go to the castle of Count Von Krolock (Ferdy Mayne) to kill him and rescue the girl (the beautiful Sharon Tate). This amazing and utterly charming horror comedy has a dreamlike, cosy atmosphere that i can`t recall ever having seen before or since. I could live in this movie. The famous dance sequence is a highlight and the ending is great. With Alfie Bass, Ronald Lacey, Sydney Bromley, Andreas Malndrinos and very little dialogue. Beware shorter prints. In 1997 Polanski oversaw a stage version in Vienna.
