DEATHSPORT (1978 U.S.) D/W: "HENRY SUSO" (NICHOLAS NICIPHOR) D: ALAN ARKUSH D/P: ROGER CORMAN W: DONALD STEWART
Troubled production follow-up to DEATH RACE 2000 takes place in a post-nuke future where peaceful "range guides" and a more barbaric city tribe are at war (and there`s unimpressive, barely-seen mutant cannibals in the wasteland). Villain Richard Lynch captures horse-riding David Carradine and Claudia Jennings, tortures them (a naked Jennings is electrocuted), puts special silly-looking helmets on their heads and makes them duel soldiers on "death machines" (customised motorbikes with laser guns) for an audience that is never seen (minimal cast). The chase scenes and stunts are well done, but not very exciting. My favourite part was the climatic duel between Carradine and Lynch with glass swords, while a strange synth soundtrack plays. With Jesse Vint, Brenda Venus and Linnea Quigley. Jennings died not long after in a car crash.
