DEATH LINE (raw meat) (1972 U.K.) D/W: GARY A. SHERMAN W: CERI JONES P: PAUL MASLANSKY
DEATH LINE is one of the greatest horror films of the 70's, but remains criminally undervalued. A cannibal lives underneath the London Undergound. He`s the grown-up child of a survivor from a digging crew that were caved-in and left to die years ago. He had to eat his dying family to survive and developed a taste for human flesh. He stalks the platforms late at night for victims and can only say "mind the doors". A genuinely touching scene shows him in a corpse-strewn hovel. Donald Pleasence has the role of his life as a cheeky Police Inspector and Christopher Lee has an extended cameo as well. Scary, funny, disturbing, gory and even thought provoking, DEATH LINE deserves more attention as a horror classic. With Norman Rossington.
