It may not be the fantasy classic that Robert E. Howard fans have been waiting for (this had a long gestation period), but critics were a little harsh on this rather fun sword 'n' sorcery adventure, that takes just as many liberties with the late Howard's character (born in the pages of Weird Tales magazine in 1932, and a predominant genre figure in books and comics ever since) as the Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicles CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1982) and CONAN THE DESTROYER (1984). Jason Momoa stars as the musclebound Cimmerian warrior. Stephen Lang is Khalar Zym, the villain who gets his hands on some kind of ancient mask that will help him rule the world. Rose McGowan is enjoying herself as his clawed, oracle daughter. Rachel Nichols is the pure-blood Princess, and Ron Perlman is Conan's dad. With Said Taghmaoui, Nonso Anozie, Bob Sapp and Steve O'Donnell (Spudgun in the Rick 'n' Ade sitcom Bottom!). Morgan Freeman is our narrator. I would go so far as to say that Howard may have even approved of some of the magic 'n' monsters set-pieces, and the balance of brutal violence and adventurous heroics. It was shot in Bulgaria. From the Director of FRIDAY THE 13TH and PATHFINDER remakes.
