CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST (1978 ITALY COLOMBIA) D: RUGGERO DEODATO W: GIANFRANCO CLERICI P: FRANCO DI NUNZIO/FRANCO PALAGGI
This infamous, controversial classic stars R. Bolla (aka Robert Kerman) as a researcher looking at retrived footage from deep in South America, filmed by an award-winning documentary team that dissapeared in the "green inferno" jungles. We discover that the obnoxious filmmakers raped a native woman and set fire to a village (and worse) to make their document more sensational. The natives take their revenge which is also captured on camera at the end. "I wonder who the real cannibals are?". There was a slew of Euro cannibal gore movies in the 70's, this is by far the best. With real animal slaughter, gut-munching, nudity, foetus ripping and more. But beyond all the shock is also a very clever, well-made feature that has been copied many times (BLAIR WITCH PROJECT). Riz Ortolani provided the haunting, memorable soundtrack. Deodato's earlier cannibal movie was CANNIBAL.
