CALIFORNIA SPLIT (1974 US) D/P: ROBERT ALTMAN W/P: JOSEPH WALSH
Magazine writer and compulsive gambler George Segal meets the equally addicted, semi-professional Elliott Gould during a poker game and they become buddies. Their lives revolve around cards, the horse-track and anything else they can bet on, always chasing that elusive thrill, never quite getting out from under it. Naturalistic, arresting and compelling (and often very funny), it's a rambling gem that rings true throughout, one of Altman's very best (note his use of multi-track overlapping dialogue and sound). With Ann Prentiss, Gwen Welles, Bert Remsen, Tom Signorelli, Amarillo Slim and Jeff Goldblum. One-time screenwriter and occasional actor Walsh is excellent in a brief scene as Sparkie. The DVD is missing three minutes of cuts due to music right issues. Altman made NASHVILLE next.

By the way, i have no idea why this poster makes the stars look like Amon 'n' Andy!
