THE BURNING HELL (1974 U.S.) D/W/P: RON ORMOND
After the unbelievable IF FOOTMEN TIRE YOU, WHAT WILL HORSES DO?, the Ormond family teamed up again with preacher/author/shameless scaremonger Estus W. Pirkle to bring us this one hour wonder. Tim Ormond (who photographed and edited with his dad Ron) is a young biker (who looks like a beatnik) who sits in on Pirkle`s sermon about hell after his friend is decapitated in a motorcycle accident. The callous, non-too-subtle Pirkle assures Tim that his friend is roasting in hell as he speaks. Pirkle bases his story on events in Israel at the time of Jesus Christ (seen in reconstruction), but the scenes in a fiery hell are what make it worth the watch. Close-ups of the damned with maggots crawling on their faces are pretty horrible, and look for the "locust" monsters (half man, half horse with fangs, scorpion tails and "the hair of a woman"). If these scenes were in a horror movie they`d be praised today by fans for being effective and creepy. In a way more shocking than the Ormonds` exploitation movies ever were. June Ormond did the make-up and helped with the production.
