BULLITT (1968 U.S.) D: PETER YATES W: ALAN R. TRUSTMAN/HARRY KLEINER P: PHILIP D`ANTONI
Steve McQueen is the rogue San Francisco cop suspicious of his assignment to look after a gangster witness for politician Robert Vaughn (who`s great). No need to mention the famous car chase, the film stands up as a superior crime thriller even without it, succesfully changing the locale of Bob Pike`s novel Mute Wintess from New York to S.F. Lalo Schifrin wrote the great musical score. With Jacqueline Bisset, Don Gordon, Robert Duvall, Simon Oakland, Norman Fell, Vic Tayback, Joanna Cassidy and Frank Gerstle. D`Antoni also produced another two movies famous for their car chase scenes, THE FRENCH CONNECTION and THE SEVEN-UPS. He hired the British Yates on the strength of his work in ROBBERY.
