THE BRAIN EATERS (1958 U.S.) D: BRUNO VE SOTA W: GORDON URQUHART P: ED NELSON
Minimal, slow-moving but somewhat interesting oddity was (unofficialy) based on Robert A. Heinlein`s The Puppet Masters (Heinlein sued and won, and the story was later filmed under that title). A cone-shaped UFO in small-town Illinois turns out to have burrowed up from the inner-Earth. Leech-like parasites turn humans into violent, mindless zombies by attaching themselves to the back of their heads. An expedition inside the claustrophobic, serpentine tunnels of the cone reveal a very old man (Leonard Nimoy!) sitting in a room full of smoke and talking about "the elders" (Lovecraft fans take note). Ed Nelson stars as a scientist, with Cornelius Keefe. Roger Corman was the Executive Producer of the is AIP release. 62 b/w mins. Ve Sota (who uses lots of odd camera angles) also directed FEMALE JUNGLE, INVASION OF THE STAR CREATURES and (maybe) DAUGHTER OF HORROR.
