BOOT CAMP (suffer island) (2007 CANADA US) D/P: CHRISTIAN DUGUAY W: AGATHA DOMINIK/JOHN COX P: CHAD OAKES/MICHAEL FRISLEV
Privileged brat Mila Kunis is drugged, kidnapped and taken to a rehabilitation camp for troubled teens on a remote Fiji island at the behest of her embarrassed parents. Her boyfriend (Gregory Smith) searches for her while she endures the bullying, brainwashing and worse. Peter Stormare channels a bit of Jim Jones for his role as the Director of Camp Serenity. The film is only so-so, but interestingly is based on real-life events, particularly the controversial (and now closed down) Tranquility Bay in Jamaica. I was surprised that I (and I assume many others) had never heard of these (still operational) "tough love" camps around the world. We need a better movie about them. With Tygh Runyan and Serge Houde. Duguay also shot it.
