BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY`S TOMB (1971 U.K.) D: SETH HOLT/MICHAEL CARRERAS W: CHRISTOPHER WICKING P: HOWARD BRANDY
Hammer`s (modern-day, and mostly urban) adaptation of Bram Stoker`s Jewel Of The 7 Stars is very slow-moving with little pay-off. When archeologists desecrate a tomb, Queen Tara possesses one of their daughters, who grows up to be sexy Valerie Leon (fans of the attractive 70`s icon will enjoy a tad more). The scene where a severed hand scuttles along left a big impression on me as a kid when it was on tv. Otherise there is little to recommend it for. It`s at least better than both THE AWAKENING and LEGEND OF THE MUMMY. With Andrew Keir, George Colouris, James Villiers and Rosalie Crutchley. Major prouction problems were Holt dying of a heart attack mid-way through filming, leaving Carreras to pick-up, and original star Peter Cushing dropping-out to be at his wife`s deathbed (Keir replaced him). Roy Skeggs and Christopher Neame both worked on the production.
