A TASTE OF BLOOD (1967 U.S.) D/P: HERSCHELL GORDON LEWIS W: DONALD STANFORD
Bill Rogers (in Lewis` SHANTY TRAMP the same year) is an American who receives a mysterious package in the post from London. It turns out that he`s the final remaining ancestor of the Alucard family who`s inherited an estate in London. He`s also sent some 19th century "brandy" which transforms him into a vampire (the transformation consists of a blue spotlight and howling noises). He takes a ship to London, commits some murders and returns to the States with an ugly square ring that hypnotises people. He hypnotises his wife and proceeds to kill-off the ancestors of the people who killed Count Dracula. Dr. Van Helsing turns up to inform the wife and her best friend William Kerwin (also the Production Manager, billed as Thomas Wood). Kerwin is sceptical about the Dracula myth ("this is the space age") but helps Helsing track down Rogers. This long (2 hour) horor movie is less gory than Lewis` others, but is pretty enjoyable. Lewis himself has a cameo as a sailor doing an awful cockney accent. He also made SOMETHING WEIRD and SHE-DEVILS ON WHEELS the same year.
